Seattle Washington Yellow Daffodil

Seattle Washington Yellow Daffodil

Cold March air misted my breath as I crouched over this daffodil in Seattle. The sky was a flat gray that worked like a giant softbox, letting the petals glow without glare. I moved in close until the ruffled cup filled the center of the frame and the six petals formed a clean star. A tiny droplet clung to one edge, proof of the drizzle that had just passed. Everything behind it—lawn, shrubs, a few more blooms—fell into a soft blur so the yellow could stand alone.

I waited between gusts, fingers numb, watching the stem sway and settle. The smell was damp soil and early spring, that mix of mulch and new growth you only get after a Pacific Northwest rain. When the breeze paused and the flower held still, I focused, checked the histogram, and made the shot.

This image brings a hit of sunshine without the heat: bold color, crisp texture, and a simple shape that reads from across the room. It fits a kitchen, office, nursery, studio, or any corner that needs a bright note on gray days.
