Gettysburg Artillery Cannon: Wall Art 19th Century Old Cannon

How did it feel to stand by this cannon during a battle and hear its thunderous roar across Gettysburg? This 19th-century artillery cannon still sits proud on the fields of the Pennsylvania military park, holding a silent power which is impossible to ignore. Framing this shot made me feel like I was seeing a glimpse into a suspended moment in history. It seemed as if I was capturing a relic that had made a difference in the lives of countless people.

This cannon, like others across Gettysburg’s National Military Park, once marked the horizon during a fierce clash in American history. Now, it lies in stillness, its iron barrel pointed over peaceful green fields under a broad open sky. I stood there, so full of awe and somber respect. This had been a battle weapon that once boomed each shot reverberating with the weight of the times.

I wanted this photo to be more than just an old piece of artillery. It had to demonstrate the difference between its violent past and its quietness in the present. While taking this picture, I moved around the cannon trying to get the perfect angle to display its solid, battle-worn frame. Its worn wheels and iron chains hint at stories of soldiers who once operated it. I pressed the shutter and could almost hear the echoes of orders shouted across the battlefield.

Gettysburg is more than a military park, but a piece of history preserved for those that pause and reflect. This cannon serves as a reminder, a relic holding lessons for those who take the time to see it.
