On a vacation to Cape Cod one year, we took a drive to see the beautiful lighthouses that I love to photograph. We drove into the small township of Truro, Massachusetts where my husband almost got our rental car stuck going down a narrow sandy path that I found out soon enough was not meant for automobiles! We were so happy to get the car out and to continue on our journey, which led us to one of the most beautiful and iconic lighthouses anywhere… the Highland Lighthouse.
The day I visited Highland Lighthouse was picture-perfect. As I approached the historic structure, I felt a sense of awe. This lighthouse, also known as Cape Cod Light, has been guiding sailors since 1797. It stands tall and proud, a beacon of hope and safety.
Highland Lighthouse is not just a structure; it’s a testament to maritime history. Indeed, it has seen countless ships pass by and has been a silent witness to the changing tides of time. The Highland House, nearby, now a museum, adds another layer of history. It tells the stories of those who lived and worked there.
As I positioned my camera, I noticed how the light played on the lighthouse’s white walls. Consequently, it casted gentle shadows that highlighted its features. Transitioning from one angle to another, I captured shots that told different stories. Each click of the shutter felt like a step back in time.
The lighthouse’s surroundings are as captivating as the structure itself. The lush greenery and the open path leading to the lighthouse added depth to the scene. Furthermore, it felt like an invitation to explore and learn more about this historical landmark.
While taking photos, I thought about the countless people who had relied on this lighthouse. It wasn’t just about the sailors; it was about the community and the lighthouse keepers. Their dedication and hard work made sure that the light never went out.
After capturing the perfect shot, I felt a deep sense of satisfaction. Highland Lighthouse, with its rich history and stunning beauty, had told its story through my lens. As I packed up my gear, I knew that I had not just taken a photo. But also, I had preserved a piece of history.
So, next time you visit Cape Cod, Massachusetts, take a moment to visit Highland Lighthouse. Stand at the edge of the national seashore, feel the history, and let the lighthouse guide your thoughts.
