Adirondack Retreat: Adirondack Chairs in the Heart of Portland

While strolling through the green oasis of Portland, I came across a serene place, a true Adirondack retreat. There were two rustic wooden chairs, painted in red, placed side by side while perfectly still and waiting. These Adirondack chairs in the heart of Portland felt like they were inviting me to sit and join them. Have you ever felt like you’re in a sort of sanctuary when sitting in a chair? It is amazing how two pieces of wood can make a space that can give so much comfort and serenity.

These two Adirondack chairs weren’t just pieces of furniture. Perched in a natural meadow and surrounded by the evergreens, they looked like they were meant to be there. They were like caretakers of the forests, having the chance to watch the performance of nature up close and personal. I went out with my camera and knew that I was gonna capture those moments of serenity in Portland’s wilderness.

I set my focus on the chairs. I wanted to capture them as they are: rusty but sturdy chairs that are standing proud with their worn edges. They seemed to reminisce past conversations, quiet afternoons, and moments of reflection. These chairs were not the latest models, and that made them all the more inviting. They’d been a part of this forest for a while now and felt as old as the trees surrounding them.

There was no way one could avoid thinking about the kind of history these Adirondack chairs had to offer. Who had sat there? What had they seen or thought while sitting down in these chairs? While the world goes on, these chairs simply stood still, ready to offer someone a spot to rest. When I clicked the shutter, I realized I did not just capture a pair of chairs, I captured a feeling of calmness that can only be experienced when you’re surrounded by Portland’s natural beauty.

I knew that these Adirondack chairs in Oregon’s greenery had a lasting effect. They weren’t just seating—they were a retreat, a sanctuary in the midst of the city’s untamed forest. And that, to me, is the true power of these wooden chairs.
