What Is the Cost of Living in Green Bay, WI?

We asked a local about what it’s like living and working in the Northeast Wisconsin region.

Green Bay, WI, is Wisconsin’s oldest city, yet it has a relatively small population of just over 100,000 residents, also making it the smallest home city to an NFL team (the Packers, of course).

While visitors and locals alike are drawn to Lambeau Field, Green Bay is known for its robust manufacturing sector, as being a destination for lovers of Midwestern food culture and for attractions like the National Railroad Museum, the Green Bay Botanical Garden and Bay Beach Amusement Park.

Among its best attributes, though, is that residents enjoy an affordable cost of living from housing to entertainment, that allows them to have a quality of life.

Mary Kardosee is the village president of the Village of Ashwaubenon, a suburb of Green Bay with around 17,000 residents. Kardosee, who has lived in the area for over 40 years, opened her own salon in 1968, where she was a hairdresser for 40 years. She has since sold her business, though she still works there part-time.

Kardosee was on the Village of Ashwaubenon’s Board of Trustees for almost 21 years before becoming its president in 2017.
