Truth Or Consequences
Truth or Consequences was called Hot Springs until 1950, when the town voted to rename itself after the Ralph Edwards radio show in exchange for having the show broadcast from town. The name stuck. The hot springs did too, and the downtown bathhouse district is still the heart of a visit.
Commercial bathhouses run inside the old walkable Hot Springs district, keeping the town’s original “City of Health” identity working. The Geronimo Springs Museum covers Native, mining, and ranching history alongside the name-change story. Six miles north, Elephant Butte Lake State Park spreads across desert water with boating, fishing, and camping. Downtown galleries and the Second Saturday Art Hop bring in the arts crowd once a month.
