Winters in Miami are legendary. When states like Arizona are having freezing weather, you can depend on Southern Florida to be an oasis of warm weather. On one winter visit to the Sunshine State, we took a bucket list tour of land and sea of the most iconic sights. After a big day, we ended up at the marina in Biscayne Bay ready to take our lagoon tour to see the amazing homes of the rich and famous visible from the water.

What does it take for a home to feel alive, even without anyone inside? That question lingered as I stood on tourboat’s deck, camera in hand, capturing one of Miami’s landmarks. The glass house, with bold architecture and vibrant lights, stood like a modern palace framed by swaying palms. Its reflection shimmered on the rippling water, as if daring anyone to ignore its presence.

This house didn’t just glow—it commanded attention. I was out scouting locations for a nighttime photo series when I first saw it. At first glance, it seemed quiet, but through my lens, it revealed a story of design, warmth, and energy. The glowing purple and gold lights inside contrasted beautifully with the cool, dark hues of the surrounding water and sky. I knew instantly this wasn’t just a house—it was a masterpiece.

Standing there, I adjusted the tripod and experimented with angles. Every shot seemed to tell a slightly different story about the house’s personality. Was it bold, confident, or maybe just celebrating the night? Its floor-to-ceiling glass windows offered a peek into the vivid colors inside. They created a perfect contrast with the calmness outside.

As I snapped the final shot, I couldn’t help but think about the intention behind this design. The careful placement of every light, every palm tree—it wasn’t random. The house felt as though it was created not just to exist, but to stand out. Unapologetically, it dominated Miami’s bustling scene.

Would it feel the same in the daylight? I wasn’t sure. But at this moment, under these conditions, it felt like the house owned the night. Looking back at my photos, I realized I wasn’t just documenting a structure. I was capturing its energy, its mood, its story.
