On a summer weekend road trip driving up North Carlina’s Outer Banks, we arrived in Virginia Beach, rated as the #1 beach in the state of Virginia, and the #1 cleanest city in the United States. The next morning, our goal was to enjoy brunch on the iconic Virginia Beach boardwalk, and learn why this spot is one of the Top 10 Cities in the country to live.
On a day painted with clear skies and a gentle breeze, I strolled the boardwalk before coming face to face with this towering titan of the ocean, the massive statue of the mighty King Neptune. Camera in hand, I was filled with awe. The statue stands with its spear pointing skyward and gaze unwavering. It stands guard over the waters and the bustling life below its base. His stance isn’t merely a pose; instead, it signifies readiness to defend. It’s a quiet promise to watch over his marine realm.
Every detail of Neptune’s towering form tells a tale of power and guardianship. From his rugged, wind-swept beard to the sea creatures at his feet, the sculpture echoes the ocean’s heartbeat. The fish, frozen mid-swim around his feet, and the turtle under his hand, seek his guidance and protection.
In this moment, my lens captured not just the magnificence of Neptune but also the essence of what he symbolizes.
